Peggy Bacon Works

Margaret Frances (Peggy) Bacon (1895-1987)

Peggy Bacon was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut in 1895 and later studied at the Art Students League with realist artists such as John Sloan and George Bellows. Although Bacon depicted experiences from her own life, she added a humorous twist that satirized aspects of modern life. Instead of being concerned with color theory or abstraction, she focused on people’s looks and actions.

Bacon also wrote poetry and illustrated over sixty children’s book, including, The Lionhearted Kitten (1927), in addition to her caricatures. Bacon was married to fellow artist, Alexander Brook.
